Department of Public Works

This is the department many residents think of when they consider the landscape of their community. The Department of Public Works (DPW) strives to ensure that residents have safe roads, clean ditches and storm drains, and a well-maintained water and sewer system.

Every year, meeting strict deadlines, the DPW must present its Annual Water Quality Report to the State of Michigan.  This in-depth report covers all sorts of things -- like where the water comes from and how it's processed, how much and what kind of impurities may have been found in the water, levels of minerals, whether there were any significant problems during the year, etc.  The same report is also available to consumers by stopping by the Townhall, or by clicking on the highlighted links here on our website.

Also among the many jobs of the DPW are the seasonal Leaf Pick-up and the on-going Brush Removal services which are available to township residents.  These men also shoulder the responsibility for maintenance of the Township vehicles, buildings, and properties.

At right, the Pere Marquette Township DPW crew studies from all angles to properly place the Columbarium.  Landscaping was completed in the summer of 2004.  The Columbarium is for cremated remains, and has 96 compartments.

In charge of this most-essential DPW crew is Andy Kaatz, DPW Superintendent.  If you have any questions or comments about this portion of the website, or to request an additional feature be added to the DPW portion of the site, please contact Andy at 231/845-7640.  Assisting Andy in the Department is the Assistant DPW Superintendent, Andy Larr and DPW Assistants Chuck Nickelson and Dan Healy.
