Hazardous Waste Collection Day

Manistee, Mason, and Oceana Counties participate in an annual Hazardous Waste Collection program, sponsored by the local Conservation Districts.  In the past three years, 193,125 pounds of hazardous waste has been collected from 2,432 participating households.  This program helps to keep hazardous materials from polluting the ground and our drinking water, poisoning humans and animals.

The program is open to 'most everyone, and the list of toxic materials they will accept is pretty impressive!  For the items they cannot accept, the brochure offers a list of other places that you can call.

The collection is ONE DAY ONLY, (usually a saturday in August-to be announced),  and there are locations in all three counties, open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  This is a pretty busy day at all sites, so plan to come early, bring some patience, and clean up some of the scary trash around your house -- the right way!!  This year, they are also accepting pharmaceutical waste.

All the particulars are in the brochure.  Pick one up at locations throughout the County, or Click for the readable/printable brochure.
